The P/S is going bad in my touchscreen. I have the old CRT type. It's a 17" Hitachi SuperScan Elite. Does anyone have an idea how to repair it? Placement parts?

Shawn, great stuff! If it isn't too much to ask, please start a new thread in the blog and tell us more about this! What happened and how the system behaved when you first got the problem, and also where these chips are located and perhaps a little about how to replace. Thanks!
shawnsullivan wrote on Aug 6, '11
The chips are ATT 41lm or lucent 41lm

Hello All Shawn Sullivan here. I have found a source for the transceiver chips that control the high speed serial data for the automation cards. If your chips blow it is huge $$$ to have the cards swapped out by Harrison. the supplier is Chicago Tech, Inc. www.chicagotech.com I went crazy and bought 20 myself.

Hello guys!
Didn't mean to disappear.
I got the reply from Pål and appreciate it.
At the time I was planning on getting a new studio spot and new console, but not much later i got a fulltime job in a studio with a Neve VR. So I abandoned the idea of getting a Harrison, even though it seems to be able to do what I want. But I still hope to mix on one at some point. Obviously not the same, but I've tried Bruce Swedien's Harrison 3232 with VCA auto and everything. I just mixed for half an hour, but man did it feel great!!

All is fine here! Thanks for the posting. I actually emailed Henning about the bussing, but never heard from him after that. No, not much activity here for a while. But that's just fine, at least for me. Let's use this place when we need it, and not like the never ending dia***ea that's on Gearslutz these days!... Ha ha!... Greetings from my control room. S12 powered on and AC on 11 24/7 ;-/

Hi all,

Long time no news here, hope everybody's fine!

I also see that some questions haven't been answered, so here you are :

-Re: multibus compression : yes you can do this on a S12. You can have a console with 4 stereo program busses with freedom to route them as you want, but you can also use any of the 24/48 tape busses and get the processors's "returns" on new channels of the console. What you can do depends on the particular desk (as it's modular, not two of them are identical!)

-Re: connectors : all the connectors are on the rear of the processing racks (the physical desk is only a remote controller, the digitally controlled analog channels are in separate processing racks that usually end up in a dedicated machine room). Those connectors are HE10 (the kind of connectors you'll find on IDE hard drive ribbons), using shielded ribbon cables. You can then transform this into for example sub-D25 (that's what I did), or cannon DL, Harting, or whatever you want with dedicated circuits.

-Re: Automation : unfortunately, the S12 is much older than the HUI protocol, so there's no way to make it work like that. You can however modify your control surface to integrate a HUI remote controller in it's chassis. That's pretty easy to do, as the control surface is also modular, so you can move the faders and other panels (as long as the ribbon cables under are long enough). I know that the recent Harrison consoles do work as DAW controller, however.

Hope this helps!

an the automation be used with a DAW like sonar using mackie HUI protocol? If not how can I get it to work?
What kind of connectors are on the rear? Tuchel, DSUB?

Hello!

I am a little confused by the very modular nature of the Series 12.
My dream console is a console with instant total recall and 4 stereo main busses to do multi bus compression a la Michael Brauer. Is it possible to configure the S12 like this?

Would be great if any of you who have info on this could shoot me an e-mail to:
henning (at) overtone.no

Take care,

Sure is a lovely one! Just fired mine up after holiday. Re the price, I'd guess this isn't the place to discuss... :-)

how much for this box of dreams? i want to buy a really top console and i'm looking for this, but, it's very hard to find this in a deafland as france, thank's for help and enjoy making music

No need to own one to be a member. Especially if you work with TWO of them frequently! :-)

Hi there, I am new to this group and although I personally don't own one myself I have two of them at hand constantly and have much love for them.

Thanks for the reply. It's a daunting decision to make.

How do I join the group..... looking for a 'JOIN' link and don't see anything obvious...

The power consumption is pretty big. You need cooling with a little more power than the S12 system consumes. I think my system, 80ch total, is maybe like 4-4.5 kW. Then double that due to the AC. That's why I use a monitor controller when I'm tracking/editing. No preamps in my S12 so I always track w/o it. But when mixing, it's on 24hrs. Pete Clark recommended to keep power on if pause between jobs is less than 1 week. I've made that 3-4 days ;-) Believe Jo said he powered down every day before fixing his cooling. Still working fine I'm sure. If you have more questions like these - I know it's a big decision! - please don't hesitate to join the group and start a thread in the blog, like 'The potential S12 buyers thread'. Could be helpful

Another question if you don't mind..... Are you powering down at the end of the day or keeping the console up 24/7?

Thanks
Stefan
